Un-casting News

August28

Sarah NicklinI’ve been on the other side of this a few times where I come in and take the place of an actor who has been re-cast, but I’ve never had it happen to me before…. until now. Quite an interesting experience. I was going to be working on a cute comedic web-series as the female lead. When I went into the audition, I read the sides, all though they were a little sparse, and the director and producer basically said, yes, we know they’re sparse, but from seeing some of your other work, we’re pretty much set on you already, and in fact, we’re thinking about re-writing it so that it focuses more on you than the current male lead. The words every actors wants to hear – awesome! Not surprisingly, I got an email a few days later confirming that they want me in the series – great!

Nike Commercial

February18

No photos allowed on set, so nothing to show other than the bruises lol! Getting to this point was a pretty length process! First was the initial casting call where all they did was have us pretend to kick a soccer ball while they took a photo – so obviously it was all about the look. The call was for high school soccer players, so I was pretty surprise I got past this part.

The Actor’s Mask

February20

Inspired by a recent bout of self-doubt and depressions that can only be described as “being in a funk”…

The actors mask is flawless – the perfect package as soon as it walks in the door. It is strong, solid, and ever-confident. It hides all the nerves and self-doubts of the actor who wears it. It is professional, engaging, and entrancing to watch. It is ever present in the face of the camera or casting directors and only once it is safely at home can it be carefully removed and tucked away.

Missing William Table Read

October5

This was a pretty cool experience. I got a call asking if Michael and I are available to come in to do a table read for the film Missing William. We were told that the leads had already been cast for the film, but it would still be a good opportunity to do. Neither of us really knew anything about the film, but we were given the script to read (which was fantastic) and were told that we were going to be reading the parts of the two lead characters, which accounted for about 95% of the script.

Short Film Audition

September28

Just auditioned for a short film. I think it went ok. I didn’t get a very strong feeling either way. I honestly don’t think I did the best that I could have in the audition – I was a but too stiff and forced, which I think comes from sitting at a conference table for the entirety of the audition. I generally like to be on my feet when auditioning since it allows me to not feel confined to a small space and allows me to use my body more in the scene, especially when the scene calls for movement.

From Virginal Sacrifice to Porn Star

April5

What a fantastic week! It started off with a meet and greet with for The Witching Hour – a new film from Kevin MacDonald, which meant getting together for drinks with the crew and meeting some of the cast members who were going to be involved in the project, most excitedly: William Forsythe.

Happy New Year!

January1

I hope this find you not too hung over this morning!

It’s looking like 2010 is going to be a great year –
so many projects already lined up and the year has
just begun! I am especially looking forward to the DVD release of Nun of That, on Jan. 12th. Over 1,000 copies have already been pre-ordered, which is fantastic, so I’m excited to see how well it does once it’s released. It’s such a fun, funny film, I have a feeling that it’s really going to do great!

Where to start….. I had such a great time during these productions it’s hard to really pick out specific moments. I don’t think I’ve worked on two productions that overlapped like these did. The majority of the cast of Normal were going to be rehearsing the two days before shooting started, however I was set to shoot Debeaked during those two days…. so I went to RI for rehearsal for Normal the two days before everyone else and did a separate rehearsal since most of my scenes are only with a few actors, then went to Chicago to shoot Debeaked for two days, and then back to RI to start shooting Normal… made me think I really need to look into some sort of frequent flier program! Hello from Texas!! I am officially wrapped on the feature The Fetish Set. I spent most of this film either with only one eye as I get pretty beaten up and get this awesome swollen eye prosthetic, or in a little girl outfit with pigtails. This is the first film of a 3-part series, that will hopefully get made depending on the success of this first one – so when it comes out you have to watch it! :)

sarah nicklin seducing collisionsOne of the quickest shoots I’ve been on – finished a feature in I think it was 8 days (non consecutive). The film is very stylized and dialogue heavy. Think A Clockwork Orange meets Clerks, only the focus is more on sexual comedy than stoner comedy or violence. (more…)

One part of our craft as actors is to look the part for the roles that we can play. Now this doesn’t always mean being beautiful and chiseled – some people are better as “the creepy guy” and keep themselves waif-like, or “the funny fat guy” whose entire career is dependent on them keeping those extra pounds. For me, I don’t really fit into either of this, so for me, being fit is an important part of “the package”. (more…)

sarah nicklinTo join SAG or to remain non-union? That is the question.

This is something I’ve been considering very seriously recently. As anyone who knows me or has read any of my other posts, I have been very proudly non-union for a long time, even though I’ve been eligible to join for around 5 years now. I’m at the point where I think being non-union might actually be a hindrance to me. (more…)

Wrapped on a small part in a feature and a short. While working on Alice D on the east coast, I was lucky enough to be able to squeeze in two other projects while being there. (more…)

I am wrapped on the feature film Alice D, the next film from by Jessica Sonneborn and Kristina Page, starring Al Snow and Kane Hodder.

Love, love, loved being on this set!! The best part of course was that I got to spend over a week with Michael again since he had been out of town for over a month at this point working on The Inhabitants. Everyone was living together in this amazing mansion in Barrington RI for the duration of the shoot and it was a blast! Most of the cast and crew knew each other (all though there were some new faces too), either from other projects, or just from having mutual friends, so it was great to see so many of these wonderful people again, and back in my old state of RI no less! We even ended up randomly bumping into our very good and talented friend Michael Thurber one night at the mall while looking for some clothes for costuming, and some of my friends from home such as William Decoff has parts in the film, so it was great to see him and his son Timmy and all my other awesome friends who came out to be extras!
